Incumbent Teresa Kok (DAP) is again elected MP for P122 Seputeh constituency with a great majority of 36,492 votes (the highest in the nation), defeating new candidate Carol Chew Chee Lin (MCA) who insulted all Malaysian women with her sexist election posters. Terasa is also elected ADUN for N30 Kinrara constituency which also covers part of USJ area (USJ 16 onward). While she is marching in with the rest of the Opposition MPs into the Parliament, she is also marching in to the Selangor State Assembly as the Ruling Coalition.

Most Difficult Victory

Undeniable, one of the toughest battles of this election is at the P106 Petaling Utara battlefield where new candidate Tony Pua (DAP) is facing incumbent Chew Mei Fun and the heavy machineries of BN (especially MCA). Despite all the BN's promises, big gun's visits and jamuan makan malam, the Petaling Jayans have elected Tony Pua as their new MP! A day before the Election, we were even told that Tony Pua might not be able to make it due to BN / MCA unstoppable, continuous bombing! But he made it with a large majority of 19,972 votes.

Most Challenging Victory

The most-big-guns-visited and most-celebrities-visited constituency should be none other than P121 Lembah Pantai - for a simple reason : Nurul Izzah Anwar (PKR) was the Candidate for its MP, and she is the daughter of former Deputy PM Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Both PM and Deputy PM plus many artists including Mawi have visited Lembah Pantai to help incumbent Shahrizat Abdul Jalil (Minister for Women, Family and Community Development). Nurul has to face lots of challenges as UMNO was doing all it could to stop Anwar and family to step foot in Parliament. Despite all the efforts, Nurul won by a majority of 2,895 votes.

Most Heart-Warming Victory

The Most Heart-Warming Victory Award must go to Manoharan Malayalam, the newly elected ADUN for N48 Kota Alam Shah. Despite of his absence from the constituency due to being unlawfully detained under ISA since Hindraf movement, the Rakyat of Kota Alam Shah have bravely stood up for him and voted him as their representative to the State Assembly with a significant majority of 7,184 votes! We salute to Kota Alam Shah!

Most Lonely Victory

Incumbent Chong Chieng Jen (DAP) is again elected MP for P195 Bandar Kuching constituency with a majority of 9,952 votes. However, he is the only Opposition Candidate that won a Parliamentary Seat in the state of Sarawak, that made him loneliest winner in Sarawak.

Nonetheless, there are some awards to be awarded to BN Candidates too, as Subang Jayans are always generous, not selfish and not stingy.

Most Popular Defeat

Incumbent Samy Velu (8-term MP, MIC President, Work Minister) was defeated on his birthday by new candidate Michael Jeyakumar Devaraj (PKR) with a majority of 1,821 votes in P62 Sg Siput constituency. Undoubtedly, all Subang Jayans (might be all Malaysians too) are cheering and celebrating for his defeat now. "Finally, he is gone!" Some would said. Unfortunately, he has just stated today that he'd not resign from MIC President post.

Most Unwanted Victory

Khairy Jamaluddin (Deputy Chief of UMNO Youth, Badawi's son-in-law) was elected MP by a small majority of 5,746 votes in P131 Rembau constituency (48,390 voters). With his corrupt reputation and arrogant attitude, what a great disaster to the Nation to have him in the Parliament! We wander who'd he jump at next?

Most Gentleman Defeat

Koh Soo Koon (former Penang Chief Minister, Gerakan Acting President) was defected by new candidate Ramasamy Palanisamy (DAP) with a majority of 9,485 votes in P46 Batu Kawan constituency. Also, Gerakan has lost all the seats contested in Penang. Yet, he has acted as a great gentleman by congratulating his opponent and DAP Penang State Chief openly also willing to take the responsibility by offering to step down. He also performed very steady and gentleman when he invited the press together with new Penang CM-to-be YB Lim Guan Eng in his office yesterday.

PENANG: Gerakan deputy secretary-general Datuk Lee Kah Choon has quit all party posts with immediate effect to pave the way for the party to “get back on its feet”.

Lee, 48, who joined Gerakan in 1987, resigned as Jalan Jelutong branch chairman, Jelutong division chairman, Penang Gerakan assistant secretary, state working committee member, central committee member and central working committee member.

Lee said he had written a one-page letter notifying the party of his decision.
“I relinquish all my positions in the party because as a leader, I want to take responsibility for the losses Gerakan suffered in the general election,” the former Health Ministry parliamentary secretary told a press conference at his service centre in Jelutong.

Trying to hold back his emotions, Lee said he does not want to be a stumbling block for other capable members to become party leaders.

His announcement came a day after his criticisms in a Chinese daily that the party leadership should be responsible for the election losses.

Lee, a lawyer, said he would continue to serve the party as an ordinary member, especially in Jelutong and Machang Bubok.

He defeated DAP’s Karpal Singh for the Jelutong parliamentary seat in 1999 and retained the seat in 2004. In the March 8 polls, he lost the Machang Bubok state seat to PKR’s Tan Hock Leong.

Lee said he would not reconsider his decision.

“My decision is solely mine and it’s final. If the grassroots want me to stay, I can always make a comeback in the next party elections,” he said.

Lee denied that his decision was linked to the report in the Chinese daily.

“I don’t owe anybody any explanation. I felt responsible and I wanted to do it, so I did it,” he said.

Asked about his relationship with Gerakan acting president Tan Sri Dr Koh Tsu Koon, Lee said it was cordial and there was a good working relationship.

Free water' effective June 1

The Selangor government will provide 20 cubic metres of free water to households in the state effective June 1 this year.

In a statement today, the Selangor menteri besar’s office said that the decision was made after a study revealed that it is a feasible plan.

The state government is deliberating the proper mechanism to implement this policy which has been introduced to reduce the burden of the people, especially those in the lower income group.
"However, the people must not indulge in wastage in order to preserve the state’s water source to ensure long-term supply," read the statement.

This was one of the election promises made by PKR in the run up to the March 8 general election.

The new policy comes amidst concerns that the water tariffs in Selangor could see a sharp spike following an agreement between the state, federal government and water concessionaire Syabas.
The deal became the subject of controversy after it was revealed that the terms are allegedly lopsided in favour of the concessionaire.

Selangor fell into the hands of PKR, DAP and PAS following the March 8 elections.

Land scam tremor in Penang

Penang could soon be rocked by a major land scam that had siphoned off millions from the state government coffers under the BN-rule.

The new DAP-led Penang government has set its sight on finding out how millions of ringgits of the people’s money were lost in land improprieties under the previous administration.

Describing it as the biggest land-financial scandal ever in Penang, Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng found that the land dealings for the past few years had caused the state government to lose millions.

“The land scam has caused colossal financial losses to the state government running to tens and tens and tens and tens of millions,” he told journalists.

Dissatisfied with the findings of an earlier Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) investigation done in 2006, the state government has now set up a three-man special investigating team headed by the Deputy Chief Minister I Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin, to carry out its own probe in the scam.

Others in the committee are Deputy Chief Minister II Prof P Ramasamy and state executive councillor Phee Boon Poh.

The committee would start its probe in the land scam next week, using findings of an earlier Anti-Corruption Agency investigation for a head-start.

The ACA has briefed Lim and Fairus on its investigation and findings on Friday.

Although Lim has not given any time frame to complete it, the committee is being expected to fast track its probe into the scandal.

Once it has completed its investigation, government insiders said Penangites would be in for a shock to discover the extent of misappropriation of land and public funds under the previous administration.

It is indeed refreshing to find the new Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, Datuk Shahrir Samad taking the bold step of dismantling price control mechanism in Malaysia, particularly since it will be deemed as an unpopular move as it will be perceived as more price increases in the forthcoming months.

It may appear counter-intuitive but it is because of untenable price controls which have resulted in severe shortages of cooking oil, wheat flour and other essential goods for the past few years. In other words, the rakyat will not enjoy the benefits of price controls anyway, if the goods are not available to be purchased at those prices.

For example, despite being a price-controlled item, condensed milk cannot be found in any of our local markets for the simple reason that at the controlled price, no supplier is able to recover their cost from selling the product. Instead, what we have is an inferior product substitute - "condensed sweetened creamer", which is sold at much higher prices.

Similarly, the construction industry has responded positively to the proposed changes as it was impossible for the builders to purchase steel and cement at the "controlled" prices of RM2, 419 per tonne and RM10.95 respectively. Instead, contractors are forced to purchase these goods at grey market prices which are significantly higher than even competitive market prices, rendering the price control mechanism completely counter-productive.

These artificial price controls also resulted in unrealistically low inflation rates in the country, such as 2% for the year 2007. This is because up to 60% of the products measured are "controlled" items despite them either not being available altogether, or only available at grey market prices. As a result, distortion is created in the market as wage increments of Malaysian workers are often tied to Malaysia's official inflation index, which results in shrinking real wages.

However, the Government should remove price control by implementing two other key policy measures which will ensure that prices will not be artificially manipulated upwards and the poorer segment of the population will not be unjustly burdened.

Firstly, as price control is removed, competition between suppliers must be increased. Without competition between suppliers, it is easy for say two or three licensed producers of a certain controlled product to collude and mark up prices unfairly. Only with greater competition from local and foreign suppliers, can the people and business secure the relevant goods whether cooking oil, flour or cement at market competitive prices.

Secondly, it is important for the Government to measure the impact of the change in prices for the poorer segments of the Malaysian community and design measures to assist them in meeting the higher cost of living. Savings from subsidies of these controlled items - flour, cooking oil, fuel etc. must be channelled directly to those from the lower to middle income group.

The DAP has proposed in our 2008 Budget that these funds be channelled directly into the workers' EPF savings, and reforms be made to the workers contribution rate to enable higher disposable incomes for the target group to meet the challenges of inflationary pressures.

We certainly look forward to more progressive policies from Datuk Shahrir Samad and we hope that constructive policy suggestions from DAP can be taken into account in the policy formulation process via the set up of parliamentary select committees for each Ministry.

Deputy minister Ghapur quits

On the eigth day after being appointed deputy minister of natural resources and environment, Ghapur Salleh has called it quits, saying that he wanted to do his "own thing."
Just as news of Ghapur stepping down trickled in, speculations on why he did so has begin to mount.

While some say that he could be joining the opposition, others suggested that his resignation could linked to an internal struggle in Sabah Umno.

Ghapur however rejected these speculations. He said he will remain as the Kalabakan Umno division chief.

It is learnt that Ghapur sent his resignation letter to Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi yesterday evening.

The prime minister has not responded publicly to the resignation. The matter is however expected to be discussed at the Umno supreme council meeting this afternoon as it effects a Umno position in the government.

Penang rally: Police warn ISA will be used

The police today warned that the Internal Security Act (ISA) could be invoked against those who participate in tomorrow's rally in Penang or spread short messaging service (SMS) regarding it.

Acting Penang police chief Salleh Mat Rashid said action could also be taken under Section 27 (5) or 27(5)(a) of the Police Act 1967 for participating in a rally without a permit.

"They can also be arrested under the ISA for jeopardising national security," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

The warning was given to those spreading SMSes regarding a mammoth gathering slated to take place in the state mosque.

The gathering is said to be a follow-up to the one staged outside the Komtar building last Friday in protest of the DAP-led state government’s decision to steer clear of NEP practices. Several former state excos had also participated.

"We would take action against those who continue to spread the SMSes and two police reports had been lodged regarding the matter so far. We are investigating the source of the SMS," said Salleh.

The police chief said the gathering was against the law because the organisers did not apply for a police permit.

"Only two gatherings would take place tomorrow, the Maulidur Rasul (Prophet Muhammad’s birthday) celebrations at the Seberang Jaya mosque in the morning and at the Kapitan Keling mosque in the evening," he added.

Salleh said 400 police officers and personnel would be stationed at both the locations.

"We would also take additional security measures, such as deploying personnel at the state mosque to face any eventualities," he added.

Assets declaration will be made public according to Pak Lah. This is a good moved. Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today said that asset declarations by all new cabinet ministers and deputy ministers will be made public.

He added that these ministers and their deputies would be asked to declare their assets twice during the five-year parliamentary term.

"We will make an asset declaration to be made available for public viewing. We will decide on the methodology and how to do it.

"I have asked the Anti-Corruption Agency to help prepare the relevant forms. When the forms are ready, we will need to discuss and understand what assets need to be included in the form," he explained.

Abdullah told this to reporters after attending the first cabinet meeting at his Putrajaya office today.

However, he did not elaborate whether spouses and family members of the ministers should follow suit in declaring their assets as well.

Ku Li to challenge Pak Lah for Umno presidency

Umno veteran former vice president Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah today said that he wanted to challenge Umno president Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for the presidency in the coming party polls.
The MP for Gua Musang offered himself to lead Umno to “heal the party” which was in “a bad way”.

“I still have ideas, I am still brave because I am independent and I don’t depend on anyone. If my service is still needed and my strength can still be used, I am offering myself to work for the rakyat,” he told a press conference in Kota Baru today.

“Even though I am old but I am still strong. If there are enough nominations for me to contest in the Umno election, I will give my service if I am needed,” said 71-year-old Razaleigh.
Razaleigh had previously challenged and narrowly lost to then Umno president Dr Mahathir Mohamad in the 1987 party elections.

This subsequently caused a split within the party with Razaleigh forming a splinter group, Semangat 46.

He was later invited back into the Umno fold by Mahathir in 1996 when he dissolved Semangat 46 and brought back all its members into Umno.
In 2004, he tried to challenge Abdullah for the presidency but failed to obtain the necessary nominations. He obtained only one from his Gua Musang division.

Lim said that among the first thing that his administration would do is to enact a Freedom of Information Act and seek all public office bearers to publicly declare their personal assets.

He has also said that the government will look at restoring local council elections and will hold open tenders for all government procurement and contracts.

In one of his first acts as the new chief minister, Lim has waived all summonses issued by the local councils before the 11th of march against hawkers and parking offenders.

Air Putih state assemblyperson and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng was just sworn as Penang’s fourth chief minister.

The ceremony took place at the governor’s residence Seri Mutiara.
This is the first time a DAP-led government will rule the state, which was held by Gerakan since 1969.

Former Port Klang assemblyman Datuk Zakaria Md Deros died after suffering a heart attack early Tuesday morning.

During the Saturday General Election, Zakaria being dropped from the politician and not contested. His daugher in law (Roselinda Abdul Jamil) replaced him but still a loser.

Perhaps die is the best way to avoid any summons from the newly form government. Maybe the mansion will be used for other purpose since it have already being built. or demolish because of safety reason. The mansion has 21 bathrooms and 16 bedrooms, including 11 that occupied by each of his children, as well as a VIP room, three living rooms, a dining hall and a prayer room. The house also has a swimming pool, several gazebos, an orchard, a two-hole golf lawn, an office, a storeroom, two rooms for maids as well as a wet kitchen and a dry kitchen. He is expected to be buried in Malacca.

According to Malaysia Kini, Malaysian stocks tumbled the most in a decade yesterday with government-linked companies hardest hit after the weekend’s political upsets. At 2:58pm, trading was stopped for an hour as the Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) fell 130.01 points to 1,166.32, from the previous day’s closing level 1,296.33 - about 10.03 percent. Trading resumed at 3:58pm, and the stock market recovered slightly. After it closed for the day at 5pm at 1,117.2, a drop of 123.11 or 9.5 percent. Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) dan Parti Keadilan Rakyat (KeADILan) Sabak Bernam telah mengesan satu percubaan untuk menipu pengundi dalam usaha memenangkan Barisan Nasional dalam Pilihanraya Umum ke-12 khususnya bagi Parlimen Sabak Bernam,DUN Sungai Air Tawar.

Pada hari ini bertarikh 6 Mac 2008 PAS dan KeADILan telah menemui beberapa keping gambar yang menunjukkan kertas undi yang ditulis calon PKR Dr. Badrul Amin dan Ustaz Azrulkhakim telah dikeluarkan sebelum hari membuang undi pada 8 Mac 2008.

PAS dan PKR amat kesal dengan insiden ini dan amat yakin ia merupakan satu konspirasi jahat untuk mengalahkan calon-calon PAS dan PKR dengan menggunakan taktik yang amat kotor dan jijik. Justeru PAS dan KeADILan meminta pihak berkuasa agar segera menyiasat insiden ini demi memastikan perjalanan PRU pada 8 Mac ini dalam keadaan bersih dari sebarang penipuan terancang.

A history have been made, a total of 50,000 to 60,000 of people gather at the Han Chiang yesterday night. It was truly amazing event! I never seen so many people support the opposition in such gathering. As I reach there late, I couldn't get myself at the central area or in front of the stage since so many people around. So decided to shoot from far and walk around to snap the scene of people watching and listening to the "Ceramah" with the police around.

Its 2.32am and I reached home and i felt that it was an unforgettable experience for me. I never seen so many people gathered at one occasion for the opposition in the last election. Probably the "Rakyat" now know what is going on in and out of the controversial government.

I have 3 questions.
1) First, why did Malaysia Prime Minister open ceremony for his relatives Nasi Kandar in Australia?
2) Second, why many Indians wanted Samy Vellu to stepped down yet he is still their leader?
3) Third, why corruption is obvious now in Malaysia but not so before Mahathir stepped down? What is the strategy difference to cover up?

Just then, the bell rings for recess.

When they resume Abdullah says, Ok where were we?
Oh, thats right. Question time. Who has a question? A different little boy raises his hand.

WHAT IS 2/3 MAJORITY FOR?

Got this email from my friend regarding the 2/3 Majority

Many Malaysians misunderstand the reasons why BN wants the 2/3rd majority.

This is what I have gathered from talking to people and from the facebook group "Deny Barisan Nasional a 2/3 Majority in the upcoming election!" I apologise for any factual errors and ignorance in this post. So do correct me if I am wrong. Anyway, here goes...

For the past few elections, we keep hearing 2/3rd majority this 2/3 majority that. Early in this elections, Pak Lah says he "hopes" BN wins the 2/3rd majority. BN has successfully got the people to think that this is the majority required to win the elections.

In fact, BN only needs a 51 percent majority to win the election and form government. And it forms government with the opposition parties such that government also consists of opposition.

SO WHAT IS 2/3 MAJORITY FOR?

Once BN becomes the lords of the jungle, it gets to do funky things like make new laws, supposedly passed in the interest of serving the people (though I wonder why it took so long for women's groups to campaign for a rape law - it is as simple as passing a law against sexual acts without consent... could it be that the men in power are afraid their wives and mistresses will suddenly sue them?).

There are laws about laws lah. You cannot simply go and pull any old law out of your ass. In proposing new laws, the parliament requires a clear 51 percent majority from those in the parliamnent, then it can pass the law. But with that 2/3 majority, what is 51 percent? BN doesn't even break a sweat with any law it wants to pull out of its ass.

A 2/3rd majority however is required in the AMENDMENT OF THE CONSTITUTION, and also some kinds of laws. The constitution is a piece of document with 181 articles that lay down the foundation of this country when it was first formed. Naturally, as time passes, some parts of the document becomes irrelevant or needs to be updated. But changing the constitution is a damn serious thing, so the law requires that the government needs a 2/3rd majority of approvals in the house before a change can be made to any part of the constitution.

Here's some perspective. Singapore has amended their constitutions 4 times and USA in all their 5 centuries of existence have amended their constitution 27 times.

Since 1957, BN has amended the Malaysian Constitution a total of 690 times. I will write it again s you won't think it is a typo. It is 690 times. You should now ask, where is the original constitution? Where has the nation gone? If it were not my country, I would be laughing.

BUT I'M SO NOT LAUGHING NO MORE

Some famous amendments include the stripping of the royalty's power and the creation of the syariah court to deal with certain Islamic legalities, and recently, extending the term of the chairman of the electoral commission. Why? Here's a clue: in a recent interview with the press, when asked about the charges of phantom voters, instead of saying, "Yes, we are investigating it," this man said "There are no phantom voters!" and also that he has not seen any zombie coming out to vote... Which leads to my questions: Why is he so defensive? Isn't he supposed to be neutral? Who is he defending? Does it seem that the very people he is defending are the same people extending his power... so that he can give them more power?

I believe the University and College Act that prevents university students from taking part in politics and those various acts that control content on media and press part of amendments to our constitutional freedom of speech. Yes, we still have freedom of speech except where we are not free to speak.

These amendments have resulted in a constitution that is messy and contradictory and inconsistent. Hence the country is also messy and contradictory and inconsistent.

ABSOLUTE POWER CORRUPTS ABSOLUTELY.. .

So BN wants the 2/3rd majority not to serve the people but to serve itself. It wants the 2/3rd majority to have UNCHALLENGED POWER to keep amending the constitution to favour them, so that with every passing elections, they make it harder for anyone to challenge them. This allows them to make themselves more powerful, richers and fatter (have you seen so many fat politicians in one party ever??)

The only time BN has lost the 2/3rd majority is in 1969. You know what happened then. As a result of the violence that was allowed to happen, BN has been able to use the incident to frighten people to always give them unchallenged power - basically the power to keep giving themselves more power and the power to screw the rakyat over and over again.

Don't let BN tell you the constitutional amendments are for national security. Do you sleep better at night knowing you cannot speak up your hopes about this land of your mother and father? Preventing freedom of speech is for nobody's security but Barisan Nasional's own skin. For it to equate BN's security to national security and say that a criticism of BN is a threat to national security is an implied threat.

Yes, by claiming that if you poke them, they can superpoke you back, BN is threatening the country. So we become afraid and turn our backs from politics. And when you turn your back to politics, you are giving your ass to Samy Vellu. And Najib. And Hisham. And Rafidah - that woman can screw too!

Indelible Ink Cancel in this General Election

Indelible means cannot be removed or erased, an ingredients or chemical come from solvents being used and it will pretty much depend on the condition where how long it will evaporate.

Country that currently using this "Indelible Ink" are India, Philippines, Indonesia and other developing countries. The ink are applied on to the fingernail.

According to Election Commission (EC) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rashid Abdul Rahman, he mention that police revealed that people had smuggled the ink in and had planned to go to rural and remote areas to trick village folk into believing that their fingernails had to be marked before they can go to vote.

“They are out to create confusion and suspicion by persuading those not familiar with the procedure to have the ink applied (to a voter’s forefinger or nail) before polling day.

“The EC views these issues seriously as the election process and public order and security cannot be compromised,” he said during a press conference here yesterday.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan and Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail were also present.

The use of indelible ink was first proposed last June to safeguard against multiple or phantom voting. Abdul Rashid then said the system would be subject to amendments to the Election (Conduct of Election) Regulation 1981.

Police yesterday said they were investigating four reports of the sabotage plan – two from Perlis and one each from Kedah and Kelantan – and have classified the cases as attempted cheating.

Abdul Rashid said the EC deeply regretted its decision but was obliged to make a firm and final decision yesterday to ensure the smooth conduct of the polls.

He denied that political pressure had been exerted on the EC to cancel the use of the ink

When asked whether a proper study was done before introducing the ink, Abdul Rashid said a study was done on how it was used in other countries.

“In the beginning, we thought it was just an ordinary process that we could just introduce but then we realised, after getting all the necessary advice from the legal experts, that we would have to take a look at the (Federal) Constitution,” he said.

He added that the EC had to examine the other laws and regulations first.

He said Article 119 of the Federal Constitution guaranteed the right of a registered elector to vote and laws providing otherwise should be ultra vires the Constitution.

Abdul Rashid said he was disappointed as he had wanted to continue with the use of the indelible ink.

“There are many things that need to be done which we cannot do.

So do not accuse the EC of not doing anything.

“We know that there is no cheating but still people insist it exists. I have never found any proof of this,” he said.

Abdul Rashid said the EC would be informing the political parties accordingly and urged them to accept the decision with an open heart and mind.

Abdul Gani said for the ink to be used, amendments must be made to Article 119 of the Federal Constitution, which protected a person’s right to vote, as well as provisions relating to the Election Act and the regulations relating to the conduct of the elections

Its not true for the first time i saw this, but its actually show that there is phantom voter. Is this TRUE?
